چکیده

Abstract Background The aim of this triple-blind placebo-controlled parallel-arm randomized clinical trial was to evaluate the effects Lactobacillus rhamnosus SP1 or azithromycin as an adjunct scaling and root planing (SRP) in patients with stage III periodontitis. Methods Forty-seven systemically healthy participants periodontitis were recruited. Following SRP, randomly assigned one three treatment modalities; (1) placebo (n = 15), (2) probiotics 16) (3) antibiotics-azithromycin 16). monitored at baseline, 3, 6, 9 12 months after therapy. Probing pocket depth (PPD), bleeding on probing (BOP), attachment loss (CAL) plaque accumulation (PI) evaluated. Results All 47 completed study. At months, all groups showed significant improvements PPD PI ( p < 0.012) irrespective modality without differences between groups. Probiotics no added benefit terms CAL. While 0.002) antibiotic-azithromycin group a reduction BOP, only revealed CAL follow-up 0.003). number sites teeth ? 5, 6 7 mm significantly reduced 0.025) regime Conclusion use SRP failed provide additional benefits these two regimes remain unclear. Trial registration NCT02839408, 10/28/2017, Clinicaltrial.gov.

The Effects of Diode Laser as an Adjunct to Scaling and Root Planing on Treatment of Chronic Periodontitis: A Review of the literature

Background and aim: The most common form of periodontitis is chronic periodontitis, which is a destructive inflammatory disease of periodontal tissues and is usually associated with pocket formation, changes in density and height of alveolar bone, and sometimes gingival recession. Some patients are resistant to periodontitis treatment due to a weak immune system, smoking, and sometimes due to u...

Azithromycin as an adjunct to scaling and root planing in the treatment of Porphyromonas gingivalis-associated periodontitis: a pilot study.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinical and microbiological effects of systemic azithromycin as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) in the treatment of Porphyromonas gingivalis-associated chronic periodontitis. METHODS Twenty-nine patients harbouring P. gingivalis were randomized into test and placebo groups. Test patients received SRP plus 500 mg of azithromycin per day (3 days), and con...

Custom tray application of peroxide gel as an adjunct to scaling and root planing in the treatment of periodontitis: a randomized, controlled three-month clinical trial.

OBJECTIVE Periodontitis is an inflammatory condition of the supporting dental tissues that is normally treated by mechanical removal of the subgingival biofilm. This mechanical treatment, generally known as scaling and root planing (SRP), is not entirely effective, and various adjunctive therapies have been investigated to improve the clinical outcome. This study evaluated the clinical effects ...

Effectiveness of alendronate as an adjunct to scaling and root planing in the treatment of periodontitis: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled clinical trials

PURPOSE Alendronate has been proposed as a local and systemic drug treatment used as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) for the treatment of periodontitis. However, its effectiveness has yet to be conclusively established. The purpose of the present meta-analysis was to assess the effectiveness of SRP with alendronate on periodontitis compared to SRP alone. METHODS Five electronic d...
